Sports see no disability — only the athlete.
At Angel City Sports, our mission is to provide sports programming for kids, adults and veterans with physical disabilities or visual impairments. We are the leading the Paralympic movement in Southern California, and while there are many reasons in which we provide these free opportunities- our main goal is to create a sense of belonging for our community and allow individuals to unlock their dreams.
Angela Madsen and her team are the quintessential example of unlocking dreams. Angela has used her elite sport background to coach and mentor our athletes and prove that one can overcome any obstacle and achieve greatness. In her current venture to row across the Pacific Ocean alone, if she is successful, she will be the first paraplegic, first openly gay athlete, and oldest woman to do so. This effort not only supports the greater vision of Angel City Sports but also compels anyone of any age, status, ability level or background to rethink their limits.
Additionally, Angel City Sports strives to increase the number of disabled Veterans and/or disabled members of the Armed Forces actively engaged in sport in Southern California. Our partnership will encourage the Veteran community. This row and the completion of the documentary are crucial pillars of strength and determination-needed now more than ever.
Angel City Sports supports Angela Madsen, her row, and the Row of Life documentary wholeheartedly in their pursuit for inspiration, motivation, and success. Angela Madsen and Row of Life have demonstrated tenacity and leadership in the adaptive sports movement and motivating the involvement of veterans in sports and recreation and therefore would be a worth recipient of this grant. Angela Madsen and her team have a unique opportunity to change the world and Angel City Sports is honored to support their mission.
Empowering lives through sport
The Challenged Athletes Foundation is proud to support Angela’s journey rowing solo across the Pacific through our Operation Rebound program. Angela’s commitment, athleticism and determination are values that align with CAF’s values. CAF’s mission is to empower lives through sport by providing access to adaptive sports equipment, training, competition expenses and community. Supporting Angela on her individual journey to conquer the Pacific ocean will also ensure more individuals with physical challenges will dream big to accomplish great things in sport and in life. Operation Rebound is committed to getting injured veterans and first responders back into the game of life through sport. Angela proves that anything is possible when you’re determined to accomplish your goals and have a supportive community around you.
